Evaluation is the attribution of value to the behavior performed by a person. However, when the term evaluation is used in this sense, its meaning becomes narrower. This is because evaluation does not only value current or past behavior; Future issues are also considered. Assessment also includes judging what kind of behavior a person will be able to perform in the future. Therefore, evaluation as a whole is the process of attaching value to a person’s present, past and future possible behaviour. Characteristics of evaluation:
(a) Evaluation is the process of valuing behavior.
(b) The evaluation process considers the past and present as well as the future as a whole.
(c) Evaluation is a coherent and continuous process.
(d) Assessment is a tripartite process interrelated with teacher’s learning effort, student learning effort and learning objectives.
(e) Evaluation considers both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of a characteristic.
(f) Evaluation is an integrative process. It considers behavior as a whole.
(g) The main purpose of evaluation is to improve educational efforts through diagnostic and remedial measures. Language: English
