Nabakanta Barua’s birthday has been celebrated as a day of poetry for the past twelve years. Celebrating the day of poetry, the celebrated poet was greeted with the day of Opja. However, even after the death of the poet, he has been remembered by organizing a day of poetry on his birthday. In this program, the poetry of Nabakanta Barua was highlighted and the current form of Assamese poetry was discussed. Born on December 21, 1926, Nabakanta Barua was a poet of modern Assamese poetry. Apart from poetry, Barua passed away on July 13, 2002, having also made significant contributions to the repository of Assamese novels and children’s literature.
