National Sports Day
National Sports Day is celebrated every year on August 29 in India to coincide with the birthday of hockey wizard Dhyan Chand. Dhyan Chand was an exceptionally talented hockey player. He was a part of the Indian hockey team at the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics and won gold medals on all three occasions. Even today, everyone remembers the talent of Dhyan Chand, who scored more than 400 goals in international matches. Budding sportspersons are encouraged by observing the birthday of such a sportsperson as National Sports Day. On this day, the President of India presents various notable sports awards such as Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna, Dronacharya Award etc. On the occasion of National Sports Day, various programs are taken up in various educational institutions, sports institutes, etc. In particular, exhibition hockey matches, prize distribution meetings, etc. are organized in Punjab, Chandigarh and other places.
