Martyrs’ Day
In India, 30th January is celebrated as Martyrs’ Day every year. It was on this day in 1948 that Nathuram Garse shot dead the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. On martyr’s day, respect is shown to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country besides Mahatma Gandhi. On this day, the President of India, The Vice President, the Prime Minister, the Defence Minister and the chiefs of the three armies paid floral tributes at the samadhi ground of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. At exactly 11 o’clock in the day, Gandhiji and other martyrs were remembered in silence for two minutes. Apart from Rajghat, Martyrs’ Day is celebrated in every state, district headquarters etc. of the country.
