25 January
National Voters’ Day
The Union Cabinet has taken a decision to observe January 25 every year as National Voters Day in India. The slogan of this day is ‘ Be proud as a voter, get ready to vote’. The main purpose of this day is mainly to attract the youth of the country towards the electoral process. It is clear from various data that the participation rate of the younger generation in india’s voting process is quite low. While the minimum age for voting rights was reduced from 21 years to 18 years, a majority of the country’s youth has refrained from participating in the electoral process over the years. The Election Commission of India has decided to complete the process of identification of the newly elected youth by January 1 every year and will be given illustrated Voter ID cards on National Voters’ Day on January 25. It is also expected that the concept of responsible citizenship and empowerment can be spread in the minds of the youth.
