The birthday of former Chief Minister of Assam and mass leader Sarat Chandra Singh is being celebrated as People’s Day. On the first day of the English New Year, this veteran leader was taken to celebrate the people’s day and celebrate the day. Born on January 1, 1914 at Sapar in undivided Goalpara district, Sarat Chandra Singha served as the Chief Minister of Assam from January 31, 1972 to March 12, 1972. In Singha’s day, the capital of Assam was temporarily shifted from Shillong to Dispur in 1974. He became a rare exceptional figure in Assam’s politics with a life of fervour and a dedicated attitude towards public service. The leader passed away on December 26, 2005.
