What were the types of educational institutions during the Muslim era?

Muslim education was mainly provided through two types of institutions. They are maktabs and madrassas.
(a) The Maktab: The word Maktab comes from the Arabic word ‘Qutub’ The word qutub means where writing is taught. The maktabs were attached to the mosques.
