Muslim education was mainly provided through two types of institutions. They are maktabs and madrassas.
(a) The Maktab: The word Maktab comes from the Arabic word ‘Qutub’ The word qutub means where writing is taught. The maktabs were attached to the mosques. Therefore, as soon as the new mosque was built, the mosque was also built. The main institution providing primary education is the maktab.
