Perhaps the most famous temple in Assam is the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. This Hindu temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and is dedicated to the tantric goddess Kamakhya. It is an important pilgrimage site and the annual Ambubasi Fair takes place here. Durga Puja is also celebrated here with great pomp.
