20 February
World Social Justice Day
World Social Justice Day is celebrated every year on February 20. On November 26, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to celebrate the day since 2009. The main purpose of this day is to create the necessary awareness for the establishment of social justice at the regional, national and international levels. In particular, issues such as poverty alleviation, solving the problem of unemployment, removing various types of inequalities in the society, removing gender inequalities, etc. are specially focused on this day. Various awareness programs were held on February 20 to achieve the goals set at the 1995 World Conference on Social Welfare held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. The day also promotes that ‘a society for all’ can be possible only if justice is established at all levels of society and also by respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.
