National science Day
February 28 is celebrated every year in India as National Science Day in honour of Chandrasekhara Venkat Raman, the first Indian scientist to win the Nobel Prize in Physics. On February 28, 1928, scientist C.V. Raman discovered a fundamental fact called the ‘Raman Effect’ in the science of light. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 in recognition of his discovery of the ‘Raman phenomenon’. It may be mentioned that The National Science Day is being celebrated by the National Council of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The main objective of this day is to increase the mindset of science and to create awareness among the people about the practical utility of science. One of the objectives of this day is to express gratitude to all the scientists for their remarkable contribution and to encourage the younger generation to do science research. Every year a specific theme is selected for the National Science Day and all the programs of the day are prepared to focus on this issue.is done. The theme set for The National Science Day in 2012 was ‘Sources of Pure Energy and Nuclear Security’.
