Sukaphaa Day is celebrated every year on December 2 in memory of The Founder of the Ahom Empire in Assam, Chaolung Sukaphaa. This day is also celebrated as Assam Day. It is worth mentioning that in the early 13th century Sukaphaa came to the Brahmaputra valley with a large number of allies from a place called Mong Maon in southern China. It took about thirteen years for the Sukaphaa army to cross the Patkai mountains and reach the Brahmaputra Valley. Sukaphaa, who arrived in the Brahmaputra Valley in 1228, established the Tai Ahom rule and ruled for nearly 40 years. The strong Ahom empire was built on the foundation laid by Sukaphaa. Sukaphaa was a very far-sighted publisher and an adventurous warrior. His vision was also very liberal and friendly.Sukaphaa was the patron of history literature, one of the elements of Assam’s essence and culture. The establishment of the Ahom kingdom under the leadership of Sukaphaa is a very important chapter in the history of Assam.
