Mendela Day
The birthday of South Africa’s anti-apartheid leader and the country’s first black president, Nelson Mandela, will be celebrated as Mandela Day. Mandela Day was celebrated for the first time on 18 July 2010 with the approval of the United Nations. The Nelson Mandela Foundation sought support from the global community in 2009 to seek official recognition for the celebration of this great leader’s birthday as Mandela Day. Eventually, the United Nations officially recognized Mandela Day. The main objective of this day is to spread the ideals, struggles and goals of Nelson Mandela around the world. The theme of this day is: ‘Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years. You just give 67 minutes to be a part of this struggle.
