National Press Day is celebrated every year on November 16. It was on November 16, 1966 that the Press Council of India started its own programme. Over the years, the Press Council of India has played an important role in maintaining the high standards of the media as expected as well as keeping it free from the evil influence of external forces. The role of free and responsible media in society was discussed through the National Press Day observed on the foundation day of the Council. On National Press Day, seminars on the responsibilities and role of media are organized in different parts of the country. A specific theme is set for this every year. The day also discussed the increasing responsibility of the media in the changing context.
