National Youth Day has been celebrated every year on January 12 in India since 1985. January 12 is the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. Believing that the life, work and ideals of Swami Vivekananda can be a source of inspiration for the youth of India, the Central Government decided to celebrate his birthday as National Youth Day. On this day, various educational institutions of the country discuss the life and ideals of Swami Vivekananda through various programs. Born on January 12, 1863, Vivekananda’s real name was Narendra Nath Dutta. Swami Vivekananda, the preacher of Indian philosophy of religion, founded the Ramakrishna Mission and ramakrishna math.
