The history of the city is as old as the epic Mahabharata. The city was known as Indraprastha, where pandavas lived. In due course, eight more cities came alive next to Indraprastha: Lal Kot, Siri, Dinpanah, Koila Rai Pithora, Ferozabad, Jahanpanah, Tughlaqabad and Shahjahanabad.
